Pain over MTP joint

A 62-year old female presents with 36 hours of acute pain over the left 1st MTP joint with swelling and erythema. There has been no trauma, wounds, bites, or fevers. She had the same thing last year, and it resolved in a couple days. She takes HCTZ for hypertension. What is the diagnosis?

Jammed finger

This patient "jammed" her finger while playing volleyball and has pain and swelling. Examination reveals that her finger is slightly flexed at the DIP joint. There is tenderness to palpation over the dorsum of the DIP and she cannot fully extend the finger. What is the diagnosis and management?
